- This is primarily what this class is about so I will only cover the main points
- Importing video - all footage, audio, images and other assets are in the project panel
- Footage can be organized in folders
- Different comps are also stored in the project panel (we'll discuss this later in greater detail)
- Video can be trimmed in the Comp window by double-clicking the footage
- For After Effects editing you must create a Comp
- New Composition - you will determine the frame rate, ratio, background color etc.
- Typical Presets
- NTSC - 720x480 29.97 fps
- HDTV - 1280x720 29.97 fps (Wider screen)
- HDTV 1080 - 1920x1080 29.97 fps
- Frame rates range between 23 and 30
- 24 fps is similar to how we see the world and is very cinematic
- Live action may require a larger frame rate
- The higher the frame rate the larger the file size for the amount of time
- Gif animations may require lower frame rates
- Drag imported footage to Comp window to inherit the video attributes
- Timeline
- All object layers and time control - we will discuss in greater detail
- Can contain a number of elements:
- Footage
- Images
- Audio
- Text
- Shapes
- Lights
- Cameras
- Determines the time in the composition window by scrubbing (dragging the time indicator)
- Time is in hours;minutes;seconds;frames (at 30 frames it converts to 1 sec - 00;29 - 01;00)
