While no one has a crystal ball to predict how 2010 will pan out for investors, there are some givens. The stock market will go up, and it will go down. Property will exchange hands. Commodities will remain volatile. Some people will make money. Others will lose it.

Local financial advisers say strategizing, diversifying and understanding industry indicators can help achieve the goal of minimizing losses and maximizing gains. The stock market crash of October 2008, spurred by investors worried about the credit market collapse, imparted valuable lessons that savvy investors should keep in mind, experts say.
