Thank you card for Glen Day

  • Time to test your "print" creativity
  • You choose the wording but it would be nice to personalize it
  • This should be considered a specialty design piece using at least one of the following:
    • Die cut
    • Special paper
    • Foil (You might need to do some research on print company that do sample prints)
    • Emboss (You might need to do some research on print company that do sample prints)
    • Package design
    • Special folds
    • Any other creative approach that stands out and looks amazing
  • Here are some resources:
    • Xpedx I called and asked for a "parent sheet" sample of the type on the link (you can search for others) They said that it should arrive in four business days. Be aware that they will ask you who you are associated with so make sure it sounds official...like a design firm etc.
    • PPCC Copy Center Though it is run like a third party printing establishment it can provide some useful solutions
      • straight cuts
      • bleeds
      • Over size printing (up to 19x13in in card stock)
      • May be more inclined to work with students
      • Folds
    • You can always use an X-acto knives for Die Cuts and spray adhesive for bonding...but for a portfolio the more professional it looks the better.
    • Research printing companies around town and see who will do sample printing...good chance to establish those relationships now. (I use Documart for a lot of my jobs that don't require mass production...and they do pretty decent work up to a point)
  • To get your juices flowing:
  • Also...look for a few select videos in D2L or Print Production Essentials on Lynda.com. If you don't have experience with Die cuts, Embossing, Foil Stamps etc I strongly recommend you watch the course on Lynda
  • Read Pages 12-15 "What kind of paper" and pages 210-218 "Getting Your work Printed" "From Design into Print"
  • Project due in 3 weeks Oct 6
