How to Build

Its time to upgrade our brewing system. We recently switched over to all grain and 5 gallon batches are not cutting it. So much time invested just for 5 gallons. We have decided to move up to 10 gallon batches. One way to do this is to have a brew rig with three kegs that have been converted to a hot liquor tank, mash tun and boil kettle. We want to share our experience along the way building the rig. What works, what did not work and eventually show you the end result.

Parts List:

Hot Liquor Tank

Weld less bulkhead
1/2" ID high temp silicon tubing
1/2″ ball valve
1/2″ pipe fitting
Mail quick disconnect
Female quick disconnect
I have supplies in the garage to make the pickup tube

Mash Tun

2 weld less bulk heads
Sparge arm
Pump
3 male quick disconnects
2 female quick disconnects
1/2″ ball valve
1/2″ pipe fitting
1/2″ FPT to 1/2″ barb
False bottom with adapter

Boil Kettle

Weld less bulk head
1/2″ ball valve
1/2″ pipe fitting
Male quick disconnect
Female quick disconnect

Tools Needed

4 inch grinder
Cutting disks
Step bit to drill the 7/8 inch holes
Drill

Heat Source

30,000 btu burners for the hot liquor tank
60,000 btu burner for boiling

We are always scouring craigslist for any deals on brewing supplies. I came across someone selling three kegs. Now we need to cut the tops and start drilling.
